What is Green Schools?

"Green-Schools is Ireland͛'s leading environmental management and award programme, working with primary and secondary schools across the country"​ (https://greenschoolsireland.org/).
Pupils and teachers are working together for a sustainable future. It is known internationally as Eco Schools.

St. Mary's Parish Primary and Green Schools

​St. Mary's Parish Primary School has been involved with the programme since the school opened in September of 2012. ​
 In fact our long tradition of participation in Green Schools can be traced to the former Scoil Mhuire Fatima and St. Mary's BNS, Congress Avenue.
  The first green flag for energy to fly at S.M.P.P.S in Bryanstown was in 2014. Since then, we have been awarded flags for the following themes:
  • Water (2016)
  • Travel  (2018) and
  • Biodiversity (2020)​ and hopefully
  • Litter and Waste / Global Citizenship (2023)

Green Schools Committee

  • One pupil from each class (3rd to 6th) is selected to represent their class on the Green Schools Committee.
  • The Committee meets on a regular basis under the watchful eye of Mrs Meade and Ms Hunt.
  • This year we are working towards our sixth green flag on the theme of Litter and Waste with Global Citizenship.
